Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP)
The Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP) was created in 2005 to combat Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse. Under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicaid Integrity Contractors (MICs) across the nation review Medicaid claims, identify overpayments, and educate providers and others about program integrity issues.
In Alaska, the Audit Medicaid Integrity Contractor (MIC) is Health Management Services (HMS). The Review MIC is Advancemed; the Education MIC is Strategic Health Solutions.
For more information, here are links to materials that CMS sent to providers in summer 2009 to alert them to the upcoming reviews, and a state fact sheet sent out in December of 2009.
