Media availability: Governor Palin to receive national fitness award for Alaska from HHS Secretary Leavitt
Award honors Alaska’s first-place finish in the National President’s Challenge
On Thursday, July 24,U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt will recognize Alaska’s first-place victory in the National President’s Challenge by presenting a plaque to Governor Sarah Palin. The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports sponsored the national challenge to encourage everyone to complete at least 30 minutes of physical activity five days a week during the six-week competition this spring. The President’s Council announced in June that Alaska, with 2,868 participants, had the highest per capita rate of participation among all states.
Secretary Leavitt will also discuss and can answer questions about his trip this week to several Alaska communities.
