Alaska’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Denali KidCare is Medicaid coverage for children from birth through age 18 and Pregnant Women who meet income eligibility standards.

For children, Denali KidCare is typically issued for 12 months at a time. You will need to renew your case every 12 months to ensure there is not a break in coverage. Approximately 45 days before coverage ends, the division will send a renewal form to your household.

How to Apply
The fastest way to apply for Medicaid benefits is through www.healthcare.gov. Individuals may also apply by submitting an Application for Services (GEN 50C) via fax, mail, or in-person to any Public Assistance office. Options are listed on our Medicaid page.

Covered Services
For questions about covered services, recipients can refer to the Medicaid Recipient Handbook, or contact Conduent by calling the  helpline at (800) 770-5650, option 2, toll-free statewide Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Q: I submitted a Medicaid application and have not received a notice informing me of the status of my application.  My child has an urgent need for medical assistance. What should I do? 

A: Seek care as appropriate and contact our Emergent Need Helpline at 1 (844) 231-7880 to request that your Medicaid application be prioritized.
 
Q: I submitted a Medicaid application and have not received a notice informing me of the status of my application. I am pregnant and need services right away. What should I do?
 
A: Seek care as appropriate and contact our Pregnant Woman Helpline at 1 (844) 864-2229 (BABY) to request service that your Medicaid application be prioritized.
 
Q: What is the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)?
A: Alaska expanded our Medicaid program to cover additional categories of children in 1999. These CHIP categories provide Medicaid coverage to uninsured children up to age 19 in families with incomes too high to qualify them for Medicaid. CHIP information and state plans are available online at www.Medicaid.gov/CHIP.
