What We Do
Health Planning and Systems Development runs programs that strengthen health care access with a focus on rural areas and underserved populations. We also conduct statewide health planning to help sustain organized and efficient health care delivery in Alaska.
SHARP Program - Next Funding Opportunity
The Alaska SHARP Program has been awarded funds by the Health Resources and Services Administration for a new component of Alaska’s loan repayment program called SHARP-I 2014. As the name suggests, this program will be similar to Traditional SHARP-I in that qualifying employer sites must be located on federal Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).
A solicitation for clinicians to participate in this program will begin in late summer or early fall. SHARP-I 2014 will be funded 50 percent by HRSA, 25 percent from the state, and 25 percent from employer match.
This new loan repayment program is anticipated to fund 78 FTEs, which includes at least 38 in 2014. This program will be funded over four years.
