Alaska BRFSS Health Profiles: Tabular Health Profiles [HTML]
This page is used to select InstantAtlas HTML or tabular Profiles to display BRFSS variables by one of four geographic systems for Alaska. The user will also specify whether to depict actual prevalence estimates (termed "crude rates") or age-adjusted estimates which transform the prevalence as if Alaska had the same age structure as the United States 2000 Standard Population. Crude rates are useful for determining the percentage of the population at risk. Age-adjusted rates are useful for transforming survey responses into a standard age distribution when making comparisons between regions or across time periods.
In order to be accessible to all user, a two-step approach is used to access the Tabular Health Profiles. The first step occurs on this page with the selection of one of the four geographic systems as well as the whether crude rates or age-adjusted rates are desired. The next step will be the selection of either a geographic area or a theme encompassing a number of risk factor variables.
The data layout of the Tabular Health Profiles is the name of the health indicator, the percentage (or number of days, as appropriate), count, alert; the percentage (or days), count and altert of the Alaska mean; then the percentage goals to the Healthy Alaskans and Healthy People in which the counts and alert columns will be blank.
InstantAtlas Tabular Health Profiles are written in HTML and afford a non-Flash Player option for accessing BRFSS variables. Individuals desiring a text-based or accessible alternative to InstantAtlas maps in HTML5 or InstantAtlas maps in Flash, should choose this HTML Profile option.
